Jackie, cooties is a term used by children for an imaginary "disease" said to infect through contact.
A child is said to "catch" cooties through any form of bodily contact.
"Cooties" is most commonly used by children aged 4–10 (or those who act this age, like Hunter ).
It probably originated with references to lice, fleas and other pests.

Oh, you mean like when ones was a boy, and had friends that was afraid for girl bacilli? they always told me I should not kiss girls because then I should have the girl infection... I used to laug at them and kiss evry girl that wanted a kiss
well I liked girls then too...
